Another bag!

A bit back I found this picture on flickr and decided I wanted to reverse [tag]engineer[/tag] a [tag]bag[/tag] from it.

It became even easier when I found a picture of his all his bag parts laid out, then I just had to use the items lying around the room for reference and I was able to draw up my own [tag]pattern[/tag].

I finally finished my own [tag]messenger[/tag] bag using the new pattern I drew up tonight. I think I did a fairly decent job in the end. I plan on going riding with it tomorrow to see how it feels. Since there are a lot fewer pieces it took less cutting and sewing and it weighs tons less, it also has fewer pockets as a trade off.

This was also my first trying [tag]appliqué[/tag] in a very long time. That was a lot of fun and I am pretty pleased with the results of the entire bag overall.

Thud!

The last thing I said was,“I feel ok, I promise.”
Then thud! Another seizure. I don’t remember what happened, I only remember coming to and seeing the crowd around me and asking how long I had been out for.

All of my muscles are sore now, and I am in a fair amount of pain. I called into work today. I really think I need the rest.

Apparently I almost reflexively punched someone in the face while the where looking in my pockets for my wallet.

Pockets!!

I missed blogging yesterday because I worked an 18 hour day and just came home and collapsed. Fortunately I was sent home early today and that allowed me a chance to catch up on several projects that have been stagnating. I managed to get all my parts for my new messenger bag cut out except for the flap and the strap. I still haven’t figured that out yet. After a bit of time laying out my pocket patterns

I got ready to start sewing and doing prep work only to realize that half of the sewing machine I intended to use was missing. So I am stuck until I find a new machine to use.

On a side note, I paid a visit to my friend Matt today. Since he is leader of the Birmingham Scooter Syndicate he knows all sorts of useful information about they city. He helped me find a place that sells seatbelt straps to use for my bag, I am so excited

It Has A Shape Now

So last month sometime I wandered on to a sale at my local [tag]fabric[/tag] [tag]store[/tag]. There is a roll of [tag]cordura[/tag] there that I paid $13.95 a yard for in when I made my last [tag]bag[/tag]. Last time I was there it was on sale for $1.95 a yard so I got a few yards in the hope that I would make another [tag]messenger[/tag] bag.

Well the past few days I have been [tag]visualizing[/tag] and drawing up a new bag design. Tonight I finally got my math to add up into numbers I liked, so I took a few hours to draw up and cut out the first piece of my new bag.

I see pockets in my near future.

And I Still Haven’t Gotten A Sandwhich

“That thing weighs 24,000 pounds, don’t let it fall on you now.” Said the manager of the [tag]plant[/tag] I was visiting. I couldn’t help but thinking my life takes me interesting places sometimes. A few days ago my job had me performing an install at a Paper [tag]recycling[/tag] mill so I got to take a quick [tag]tour[/tag] once we were done. I got to see huge rolls of paper the size of small cars being prepared for shipping. From there they are sent out to become milk cartons and paper cups.

Unfortunately I was unable to run in the Be & K 5k [tag]run[/tag] this weekend. Because I was called in on an emergency project at work that several other people didn’t even bother to show up for. It is kinda funny, I have managed to take 3 days off of work and still managed to pull a 40 hour week in the space of 3 days.

And lastly I got kicked out fo a [tag]Subway[/tag] [tag]restaurant[/tag] this morning.I walked in the front door and two people were standing in the lobby talking and no one was behind the counter. So I turned to the girl standing closest to me and ask her if they were serving food. The other girl pipes in asking me to read the door. It was 7am and honestly I just wanted a yes or no answer. I tell her I read the door but there is no one behind the counter and they were both standing there with their hands in their pockets. She asked me why would I say something like that. And I pointed out it looked un porfessional, and she asked me to leave.

So much for service with a smile

Do Re Mi SEW!!

So I have spent most of my free time since New Years learning how to machine [tag]sew[/tag]. I can hand sew decently well, but the machine expereince is completely new to me. But it is loads of fun, currently I am working on a new [tag]messenger[/tag] [tag]bag[/tag].[thumb:425:c] I have also been taking advantage of this opportunity to try something a little more ambitious than my last bag and doing a little [tag]embroidery[/tag] on the flap . Eventually it will have a kind of rising sun thing going on there.

[tag]Pockets[/tag] are fun!

I have also managed to patch up all my torn up jeans, and as [tag]Martha[/tag] [tag]Stewart[/tag] said “That is a good thing.”
