Adventure is really just poor planning.

Travel Stuffs

There have been more ball jokes this week.

I flew to Sacramento for a  doctor’s appointment this week. Normally I would have stayed with my family down in the Napa valley region, but instead I was hosted by a guy in an area that is apparently locally known as,“ lavender heights.” So on the walk to his place from where we met up it went, “There is a →

Imagine, trying to calm down a lady whose flight left in 20 minutes, and only had a 35 minute lay-over in the next city.

While boarding for my flight out, I remember recently staying that the Birmingham airport is a very well laid out airport compared to several others in the country. The staff on the other hand is border lining retarded. I try to give them reasonable benefit of the doubt. Mostly because I actually went to high school with a lot of →

I was asked the best thing today.

I gave someone the quick rundown of why they would not like to live the way I did, or probably not with me for all that matter.  The time spent sleeping in tents in towns I couldn't name, living in self storage units for cheap rent, and the such.  Then she asked me, if given the choice would →

I like the kinda bars you leave your clothes outside when you get home. Classy!

This weekend was spent at a Science Fiction convention in Birmingham. I went for several reasons. One was for general con weirdness. The other reason was to see my mom whom I haven't seen in a bit. She actually helped organize the convention. Yes my mom is a bigger nerd than I am, but she has been at this for a →

And my barber thinks I am weird.

I caught the bus from Atlanta, Georgia home to Birmingham, Alabama. I would have paid extra to take the train had I realized how long I would be in Alabama just so I could take my bicycle with me. But then I would have missed all the excitement you find from the locals when you ride the cheap buses. Like →

Bus trips and lost contacts.

In Atlanta, wednesday night my boss told me that I pretty much had nothing to do for the week. I saw this as my big chance to get home to Birmingham. I was on a bus home the next morning. No real warning to anyone, except for a few phone calls,“Hey I am on the bus headed home.” Really since →

It is never the ride out there. It is always the ride home.

Two days and about 3 seizures later I feel horrible, but on Sunday I felt great. It was hot when I left the house, and I originally was only heading a few miles from the house to get out stretch and maybe get a pack of candy. I know, grand goals, but sometimes it is the simple things. I rode →

Is that a steel frame, or are you just happy to see me.

As I sit down to write this, I am on my fifth train today. Trains are never a good place to concentrate. There are always flashing lights, loud noises, and people walking by. Yet when I am off my bike. Train are one of my favorite places to think. Before I got on the train that took me home, I rode →

Girls on roller skates and a beer garden. Am I missing something?

Please excuse me, most of this thread was written, post seizure, with a head-ache, while eating in a Chinese joint. My head hurts, I am watching a pack of maids in the row ahead of me, talk about the strange things they found in hotel rooms today. A girl with blue hair so emo she was making me depressed. Unfortunately →

Yes a blog post about a sandwich.

I am sure have I made mention of my appreciation for donuts from strange locations in the past. My first day in Paso Robles I noticed one of several small donut places. I knew already that if I went there around lunch I wouldn’t be getting much else done for the day, but sometimes for the sake of enjoyment you →

This is why I travel light.

This came from http://www.jenwang.net/art/comics/dance/, I have known about it for ages. Someone gave it to me when I flew before. It has always makes me happy when I fly. I thought of if while watching my zoned out flight attendant on my first flight, and had time to find the beginning and this part during my first layover in North →

Yes that was a Dude dressed as Sakura.

It has been an interesting weekend to say the least. The guy doing "Shawn" from Shawn of the dead was my favorite.  There where lots of other awesome costumes. I looked at most of them alone, mom mostly stayed busy running panels all weekend. Unfortunately I couldn't stay at the con all weekend. I had a wedding to attend, plus I didn't →

Touring on a penny farthing.

I was sent these today on bike forums. I was amazed and figured I would share. Here are some photos of a recent unsupported week long tour. They used several circa 1920 single speed racer penny farthings.  Seven were on the original fixed gear setup. The other six were on single speed "safety bikes". They did 400km over the course of →

God Speed on Your Ten Speed.

I recently found sometimes you have to take the long way around. This post took a very long time for me to figure out how to open properly. This weekend I hosted a couple with a really interesting story to tell. They are both touring on their bicycles from Rochester, New York to Portland, Oregon. The coolest part to me is →

Bikes and Flying

My Letter to VirginAmerica Airlines Regarding Bicycles as Baggage. I have sent it to a few other airlines to. Hello, It seems that you all are trying to create a different kind of airline that exceeds customers’ expectations. For all the folks out there that are trying to live a green lifestyle and minimize their use of cars, bringing your bike with →

Sieze The Day!

Walking out of the train station I was a just little pissed. I had just found out there would be a thirty minute delay until they would be unloading luggage from the train. That meant I would have to wait to get my bicycle back. This is why when I travel, I hate having to check anything. I was calling Bobby →

My head.

I have been back in Birmingham for two days. And I have managed to have two seizures. I didn't have any the entire time I was in California. My head hurts now.

Finding The Jake.

So everyone has been waiting for the blog post from the week with the stupid ass adventure. Well....here it is. My dad and I were already running a little late for the airport when disaster struck. All four lanes of traffic were shut down right before the exit we needed to get off of for the airport. My flight was scheduled →

“Cowboy”

I haven't been called "Cowboy" in ages. Sarah and I hung out yesterday for the first time since I got out the hospital in Oklahoma. She means something special to me and was there the entire time I was unconscious. Originally we planned on going to San Fransisco but, since she had been in the car for four hours already, and neither →

Life has been really hard here.

Between eating my Grandmother's cooking everyday. (I am currently eating a pot roast with a spoon.) and hanging out around here. Life has been pretty hard the past couple of days. I was told the second day my dad was out of his wheel chair, he found the highest hill near the house and walked up it just to see if →

Napa valley region.

Today my dad and I got an early start before everyone else woke up. We started by driving past the spot were he was hit by a car while riding his motorcycle. The tire marks are still gouged out of the dirt the fence was still destroyed almost a year and a half later. It was easy to understand why →

Californicating

I flew out to Oakland, Ca to see my dad for the first time in nearly 4 years. This is the first time we have spoken to each other face to face since I left home for college back in 2001, and this is my first time seeing him since he spent half the year in the hospital last year.

Fosters…… Australian for piss

A few nights ago I learned several important things: 1)The auto focus no longer works on my camera 2)Australians play pool a lot differently than Americans 3)Australians think that Fosters beer is an embarrassment to the country I spent my evening several days ago talking about the finer points of southern culture and bicycling with two Australian guys, while playing several rounds of pool →

Update of sorts

One of the many perks of having my memory fried, is that I tend to forget to update my site. My week has been pretty interesting. I got published in a newspaper again. This week it was a picture I took. My name appeared in the Dec. 6th-13th issue of the Birmingham Weekly I am still feeling pretty rough from my last →
