Progress I guess.

Wow! I haven’t had a seizure in several days. Even after several things got me really aggravated today. I was able to take a moment, compose myself, and carry on. In the grand scheme that’s a really big thing, compared to not too long ago when I was having two seizures a day. Most people say I have been in a better mood recently but I think thats kinda hard to say.

Next week I have a Dr’s appointment and they are talking experimental drugs. to curb the seizures all together, we will see where that goes.

Riding a bike with no brakes and a pot of soup……..skills

Wednesday was the weekly meeting of “Food not Bombs” to cook and feed people in Little Five Points. I try to help them when I can. Our personal ideology is a little different so I make it a point to learn from them as much as possible. It is also nice to be able to help out a decent cause thats helping out where others groups aren’t. Plus they work amazingly hard to make things happen. And I love the guys in the local group who work week after week to feed these people.

Recently one of the stores they were getting donations from got a new produce manager and started refusing to help on the grounds they believed we were keeping the food just to eat instead of feeding others with it. So I was asked to take pictures this time. I have several from past weeks as well, so it will be nice to have a contrast to show them how big it has gotten.

We spent several hours preparing dishes before heading out to pass out food. The food was well received, and went extremely quickly. Everyone was glad to see us come and liked everything we had to offer. For some reason there does seem to be a social stigma associated with accepting a free lunch for some people, so some seem insulted when we offer them food, but all in all things went really smoothly.

Leaving “Food not Bombs” I ran into Rafael and several other of my friends practicing bicycle tricks in a parking lot where I was coerced into shooting a few more pictures. Luckily it was perfect lighting conditions for tracking shots. So he got in his zone and rode out a few leg over skids while I shot. I really enjoy the amount of movement that’s shown in some of these shots.

Share The Road Jerseys Redux/ For anyone wondering what to get for my birthday

First off I got a comment from cyclist Corey Keizer over at 15rides.blogspot.com
He is doing a lot to raise awareness for cyclist rights. It means something to me since any night while doing volunteer work I found out I can ask the crowd, “Who here has been hit by a car?” And alway get an affirmative answer from someone, sometimes several someones.

That being said. With my birthday coming up I either want a jersey from his site in a medium. Or a right hand 105 9 speed shifter so I can fix my road bike. Kills me having a broken bicycle I can’t fix, and it isn’t the sort of part people just leave lying around.

Where are my pants?

Early Thursday someone asked me, “are you going to Elizabeth’s party Friday?”
“Who?”
“Elizabeth?”
“Who?”
“Besti….The mad Russian!”

Turns out I was, so were half of the other bicyclist I know and people who do volunteer work in east Atlanta went as well. One of the more interesting things of the night was the fact they had liberated a huge billboard from somewhere and turned it into a massive slip and slide using water and baby oil.

I played it fairly calmly since I was still recovering from several seizures earlier in the the night, but still managed to have an all around good time. I also had to barter for a ride home in very broken German.

I think it officially became a party when I heard Jeremy utter the phrase, “Where are my pants?”

The next day while doing volunteer work at Sopo, I had just taken a moment to eat lunch when a guy ran his motorcycle into the side of the building while attempting to exit the parking lot. I ran over to make sure he is ok, then checked to make sure he didn’t have a concussion, and what happened? I had a seizure. Pretty much like clock work. I checked the guy out before walking to the bathroom room and passing out. 6 seizures in 3 days while on my medicine, a new personal record, but it has left me a bit tired and in pain. But on a side note, I am getting a new Medic-Alert bracelet for my birthday

The world within

I just finished this piece recently and I relived to be done working on it. Mostly because I had a lot of little pieces of paper floating around I that I really didn’t want to lose or recut.
[newline]
[newline]
The diagrams for the piece came from the book “Pop-Up Geometric Origami by Masahiro Chatani and Keiko Nakazawa”
[newline]
[image:1377:c][newline]
It took me a while to finish it, because I was juggling several over projects at the same time.
It folds completely flat, and usually wows people the first time they see it.

and here is a youtube video someone made of it opening and closing one they made.

The Mark7

I really need to come up with a better name for it. But this is the seventh reiteration of my current bag design. Not the current bag I have made. Unfortunately I lost count of that ages ago. This one has several improvements over my sacred heart bag which thankfully saw lots of use, but unfortunately failed in lots of places.
The Mark7 was built with strength in mind so all of the seams were rolled over and double stitched. I also tried a few new things with the compression straps this time. I am curious how it holds up over time. In the mean time, I am debating if I am going to be using my sacred heart bag a little less, or if I am going to cut it up and recycle that hardware for my next bag. I know it will be a bit before I embroider anything that detailed, and it is my favorite bag for purely that reason.

Time for a leap of faith

So I haven’t been looking forward to going to the doctor ever since I got out of the hospital the last time. That is, because this is the one that would determine what the next step was as far the brain surgery was. Well that was if they had found anything. My MRI series came back clean. No lesions, no excessive scaring, basically no real reason for the seizures. I got what could be interpreted as good news to most people. That I don’t need brain surgery, but unfortunately I focused on the underlying part which was surprisingly depressing. They once again don’t know what’s causing my seizures.

My doctor told me that once again we are pretty much back to square one. My options are once again to try different drugs to see if they manage the seizures our maybe the Vargus implant. So here we are, almost a year later, and I was told once again, “you seem to be coping well, and we will keep trying.” I know all the doctors are trying, and I know it is sort of a trial and error and patience thing. It just doesn’t make it any easier. After hearing my doctor say, “I don’t know.” I had to spend the next few minutes choking down tears as my doctor talked and went through the paces.

My doctor did give me a a fairly clean bill of health which, unfortunately after speaking with Bob was not enough to get me put back on the schedule at the bike shop. He still feels like I am too much of a risk at this time. Oh well. Speaking of risk, I was asked to stay off my bicycle by my dad again, I guess I shouldn’t tell him about the unicycle or that I am in the market for a new track bike or that I am looking to repair my Allez still.

And lastly, I finally managed to get new glasses while I was in Birmingham.

Only the good.

Back to the myriad of reasons I keep personal life off of Stupidhurts and the internet in general.

I was aggravated a few days ago and in a moment of poor self moderation I posted something on Bikeforums I probably should not have. Granted everyone who read it agreed with me and my actions, but the fallout was completely avoidable. Apparently when she logged on to defend herself the mods took note and contacted me to verify it was actually her and then soft banned her on general purpose. I actually tried to state her case on the note I started it for starting the thread in the first place, and she is actually looking for a bicycle. But apparently she radiates crazy over the internet pretty effectively. The thread has since been removed due to the amount of traffic it received and I have no reason to repost it here, but it does evidently make for a funny drinking story for my closer friends. Even more so when I tell both sides.

I would rather laugh with the sinners, than cry with the saints.
The sinners have much more fun.
