Part of the way into composing this entry I realized that I was bleeding from the index finger of both hands. Not that this is bad, just makes typing a little weird .
So this week has been amazing for me. It is Wednesday and I have been into: a stem cell research lab, a museum, a NICU, and the Birmingham news. A lot of my free time has been spent starting out the windows of the various high rise buildings around town enjoying the skyline.
As I walked into the news office this morning, the stark black and white colors enclosed me completely and took me back to the last time I was in that lobby. It was a few years ago and I was trying to pitch myself as a freelance photographer. I got turned down then.
That same feeling of defeat followed me into the office today. My chest got a little tight as entered the production floor. I looked around the floor in mute awe at the people bent over their desk furiously working at getting tomorrows paper out, before getting to work on my own assigned task.
Part of the way through said task I got a text message from a girl that I am absolutely enamored with. Unfortunately it left me a little distracted and a few minutes later I got a reminder that Stupid Hurts as I ran a drill bit through my index finger. Remember kids pay attention when using power tools!!

And I am sitting home in front of my sewing machine. Actually today has been pretty productive. One of the high points was getting my registration forms together for the BE&K 5K run thats coming up next month. I am so stoked about running in it.
As for the sewing. I decided since I have a custom bag that I should have a matching Ipod case. So after a few minutes of visualization this is what I came up with.
I am pretty happy with it, and I can now skip songs while riding
I did learn you get funny looks walking around the fabric store blasting Marylin Manson on your headphones while hunting for cool cloth.

After two weeks off my bike I finally managed to make the time needed to get it back together and ride a few miles on the new tires. My first errand was to retrieve my car from a parking lot because the battery decided to die on my way home from work this morning.
While packing up my freshly charged battery I realized it was sad that I own enough backpacks to have the thought, “this isn’t going in my good messenger bag, which of my others bags should I take.”
I honestly think I have managed to find the most hardcore workout ever. Attacking hills for several miles with a 25 pound battery strapped to my back was enough to leave me dizzy and close to vomiting on the side of the road.
Yeah it was fun.
So after getting my battery installed I broke down my bike and drove home. I actually stayed inside long enough to change into more cycling friendly clothing before running out to do a few more miles.
Today has been an amazing day. Well aside from car breaking down or course. I had a great time talking to a friend online for a few hours. I got a call offering a job installing networks and traveling. I saw one of my favorite responsible adults and she imparted wisdom. I got to ride a few miles and get my heart pounding. And most importantly I got a HEAVILY discounted ticket reserved for Rome this summer.
Now if I just can get some sleep finally.

So I decided to get fancy and embroider my name into the strap on my new messenger bag, but I managed to break it half way through the letter “C”. That small setback aside I have finally finished my new bag granted it isn’t nearly as hardcore as my other bag it should suit my needs fairly well.
I am happy it is just a little smaller than my previous bag and a little more manageable since I am not carrying around such large loads.
It should be perfect once I get it broken in.
According to this handy tool found here Average six pack capacity. It should be good to hold 11.4 six packs. Thats a lot of soda.
Also I got the coolest package in the mail a few days ago. It was an envelope full of free samples of plastic buckles and adjusters for back packs from Itw nexus I have enough to make two more bags and still have a few parts left over.
So aside from spending my time slumped over my sewing machine life has been pretty quiet lately. Kinda makes me wander if this the calm before the storm. On an awesome note. On Friday I have an interview with a company traveling around the country doing office network setups. I am a bit nervous about it, but I am so excited at the same time.

This is the coolest thing I have seen in a bit. And it answers the question who would win between Scorpion and Ryu.

So I have spent most of my free time since New Years learning how to machine sew. I can hand sew decently well, but the machine expereince is completely new to me. But it is loads of fun, currently I am working on a new messenger bag.
I have also been taking advantage of this opportunity to try something a little more ambitious than my last bag and doing a little embroidery on the flap . Eventually it will have a kind of rising sun thing going on there.
Pockets are fun!
I have also managed to patch up all my torn up jeans, and as Martha Stewart said “That is a good thing.”
